Growing Kings, in Partnership with the ABMoC, Hosts Juvenile Justice January Monthly Meeting
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Birmingham, AL – Growing Kings, Inc., a prominent Birmingham nonprofit organization that focuses on improving life outcomes for underserved boys and young men of color through long-term support and structured programming, is continuing its work amidst COVID-19.
In July, Growing Kings launched the Alabama network of the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color (ABMoC) to bring community leaders and organizations together in an effort to transform state and local policies that are failing boys and men of color. On Tuesday, January 5th, Growing Kings, in its partnership with the ABMoC, will host its January monthly meeting virtually and continue a conversation centered around juvenile justice in Birmingham and across our state that began on December 1, 2020.
In a 2017 study, the Alabama Juvenile Task Force found that, although Black youth make up just 31% of Alabama’s youth population, they made up 57% of 1,280 youth taken into DYS custody. During its January meeting, Growing Kings will further detail its strategies for combating that alarming rate which include its “The King in Me” juvenile diversion program and expanding its advocacy efforts throughout Jefferson county.
Individuals can RSVP by Monday, January 4, 2021 by visiting www.growingkings.org/rsvp.
