Growing Kings Partner School Honored as an Alabama “Torchbearer School”

For the second year in a row, (Growing Kings partnering school) Wilkerson Middle was distinguished as a “Torchbearer School” in the State of Alabama.

As developed by Governor Bob Riley in 2004, each year the Alabama Department of Education declares a select few institutions as “Torchbearers” of Alabama — schools that are high in poverty, but cream of the crop in academic and extracurricular performance.

Wilkerson was one of six select schools awarded throughout the state, and the only honored in the Birmingham area.
